PNP continues call for St Thomas councillor's removal

Minority leader of the St Thomas Municipal Corporation Hubert Williams is continuing his call for Local Government Minister Desmond McKenzie to take action against councillor Dean Jones who he says is not qualified to sit in the Municipal Corporation.

According to Williams a P45 form obtained by the People's National Party Caucus of the Corporation through access to information has revealed that Jones was a civil servant when he was nominated on November 28, 2016 for the December local government polls.

The P45 form indicates that Jones was previously employed to the government service and resigned on December 16, 2016.

The PNP caucus is insisting that Jones, at the time of local government elections, was not eligible for nomination and election to the municipal corporation, and must be removed immediately.

Jones was elected as councillor for the Yallahs Division in the St Thomas Municipal Corporation.

The caucus argues that the integrity of all council members is at stake, when Jones is allowed to continue to sit in council sessions.

Local Government minister, Desmond McKenzie has not made a public response to the calls.
