The parents of one of the men shot and killed in Olympic Gardens, in west central St Andrew last night are calling for the community to be designated a special zone of operation following a flare-up of violence that has left a number of persons dead and injured.

Vivene McLeod, the mother of 32-year-old Joseph Kelly who was killed last night when gunmen opened fire, is calling for the implementation of the special zones of operation.

She, along with her husband Omar McLeod, believe that the measure would lead to a reduction of violence that has been affecting the community in recent weeks.

McLeod says she is still in shock after the death of her son who was standing at his gate with a neighbour's 10-month-old baby who was injured in the shooting.

She described her son as very friendly and helpful and says she is surprised that anyone would want to kill him.

The police say about 4 o'clock yesterday gunmen carried out an attack in Olympic Gardens shooting four persons, including a 10-month-old child.

They were taken to hospital where the two men and a woman died and the infant admitted.
