SHRA to launch regional wellness programme for adolescents
The Southern Regional Health Authority (SHRA) is set to launch a regional wellness programme for adolescents on July 10 at the Golf View Hotel in Manchester.
In a release SHRA says it has taken a critical look at childhood obesity in Jamaica and will roll out an the intervention programme.
SHRA says the intervention programme Camps HELPS-Healthy Eating Lifestyle Physical Activity Screening, will use “physical activity and healthy eating as a tool to prevent, reduce and control chronic non-communicable diseases”.
It says total of 50 adolescents are to be selected from Clarendon, Manchester and St Elizabeth to participate in the event.
According to SHRA, more than 11 per cent of children between the ages of 10 and 15 are affected by obesity, while 35 per cent of teenagers between 15 and 18 are affected.
