More than $21m in refunds, compensation secured for consumers – Commission
Chairman of the Consumer Affairs Commission Kent Gammon says the consumer protection agency secured $21.5 million in refunds and compensation for consumers in the 2016-17 Financial Year.
Gammon says of this amount, $16.8 million or 78 per cent was secured on behalf of consumers in St Andrew, St James and Kingston.
He says the commission handled 1,453 complaints during the period.
Gammon says overall, the Commission resolved 1,377 complaints which represent a resolution rate of 87.89 per cent.
The Commission Chairman says the top three complaints categories which contributed significantly to the total amount of refunds and compensation were Automotive, Appliances and Electronic items and Hardware and Household Fixtures.
He’s urging consumers to shop around and conduct their due diligence before making a purchase.
