The St Ann’s Bay Regional Hospital in St Ann has received 50 new beds.

The donation was made yesterday by charity organisation Food for the Poor.

The hospital’s Chief Executive Officer, Leo Garel, said the donation will help to ease the chronic bed shortage at the institution.

Over the years, patients have complained that they have had to sit in chairs for days in the Accident and Emergency Department due to the lack of bed space.

Garel said the donation means a lot to the hospital and it is happy it can now make patients more comfortable.

Executive Director at Food for the Poor, David Muir, said the donation was one of a series in which the charity organisation was working with the Ministry of Health to provide beds for hospitals across Jamaica.

Muir said he expects to deliver another 100 beds to other institutions in the near future.
