Four killed, four hospitalised in Westmoreland, St James shootings

Two people have died and two others are hospitalised in critical condition after gunmen fired shots into a car yesterday in Lambs River, Westmoreland.

The dead men have been identified as 32-year-old Kenton Castel and 34-year-old Garfield Francis of a St James address.

Reports are that about 11:30 yesterday morning, a car travelling with the gunmen aboard blocked the path of another vehicle along the Lambs River main road.

Men with guns alighted and opened fire, hitting the four people who were travelling in the blocked car.

Castel and Francis died on the spot while the other two unidentified people were rushed to hospital.

Meanwhile, two men died after gunmen shot four people on Barnett Street in the vicinity of the old fire station in St James yesterday.

One of the dead men has been identified as 36-year-old Devon Atkinson of a Lilliput address.

The other man, who is said to be from Hanover, remains unidentified.

No motive has been established for the shooting.
