The management of Kingston Freeport Terminal Limited (KFTL) says it has implemented several measures to reduce the time it takes for truckers to clear containers for delivery.

Operations manager at KFTL, Norman Williams, says opening hours have been extended and a specialised team of straddle carrier operators have been put in place to facilitate the clearing of containers.

He says this is to be complemented by a new appointment system that is expected to streamline how truckers come in to clear containers for delivery.

Williams says a new Terminal Operating System is to also come on stream.

The new measures were implemented by KFT following a protest by truckers on Monday who complained of delays in clearing containers for delivery.

The truckers say this was causing them to lose customers and money.
