Petrojam confirms it's the source of oil spill; no reports of impact
The state-owned oil refinery Petrojam has acknowledged that its facility was the source of the oil spill in the Kingston Harbour last Wednesday.
However, Petrojam says the majority of the spilled oil has since been recovered and there has been no reports of impact to plant or animal life.
It says the clean-up efforts will continue as needed and directed by the National Environmental Planning Agency (NEPA).
Petrojam says the oil slick was discovered during a routine inspection of the oil-water separator and containment boom at the refinery.
The refinery management says it immediately activated its emergency response and incident command mechanism and stopped the source of the spill and remediation protocols approved by NEPA were used to remove the oil.
