Driver of car that mowed down 56-year-old woman charged

The driver of the motor car that mowed down a 56-year-old woman in Brompton, St Elizabeth, on Sunday has been charged.

Kenroy Bennett was charged last night after he was released from the Black River Hospital.

He has been charged with manslaughter and causing death by dangerous driving.

Bennett is scheduled to appear in the St Elizabeth Parish Court tomorrow.

The police report that about 7:15 in the morning a Toyota Corolla driven by Bennett crashed into a utility pole then veered off the road and into Joan Robinson's yard.

Robinson, who was sweeping her yard at the time, was hit by the car.

Bennett, Robinson and a third person who was a passenger in the car were taken to the Black River Hospital.

Robinson died while being treated.

Bennett and the passenger were treated for injuries and released.
