Cabinet has approved the award of two contracts under the Energy Efficiency and Conservation Programme for the supply of plant and equipment for energy-efficient air conditioning retrofits for the May Pen Hospital and the Ministry of Education, Youth and Information.

Minister of Education, Youth and Information, Senator Ruel Reid, made the disclosure during a post-Cabinet press briefing held recently at Jamaica House.

He said that the first was awarded to Geddes Refrigeration Limited for the May Pen Hospital in Clarendon in the amount of US$345,203, and the second for the education ministry, National Heroes Circle, in the amount of US$293,464.

Meanwhile, Kingston Bookshop Limited was awarded a contact in the amount of $144.47 million for the procurement and distribution of textbooks under the National Text Book Scheme for 2017-18.

The ministry provides core texts and materials for both primary and secondary institutions under the National Textbook Loan Scheme and the Primary Textbook Programme.
