Jamaica's Chief Medical Officer, Dr Winston De La Haye, says a claim that a Cayman businessman is close to inking a deal to supply cannabis oil to the Health Ministry is false.

In a release from the Ministry of Health this morning, De La Haye said Jamaica is involved in no discussion to engage any overseas entity to supply the entire Health Ministry with any form of medicinal cannabis.

He says there is no plan to enter any such discussion.

De La Haye says there was a proposal for a cannabis-related clinical trial at the Hope Institute, which was submitted to the Ethics Committee of the Ministry of Health.

However, the chief medical officer says the proposal was rejected.

The clarification from the ministry follows a report aired by broadcaster Cayman 27 that a businessman there is about to ink a deal to supply cannabis oil to Jamaica.
