Fisher folk and other marine interests, particularly south of the island, are being urged to exercise caution and intensify their preparedness as Tropical Storm Harvey approaches.

Acting Head of the Weather Branch, Kareen Gourzong, says at 4 o’clock Friday afternoon, Harvey was 210 kilometres West South West of St Lucia.

Gourzong said the projection is for Harvey to maintain tropical storm strength while moving through the central Caribbean.

She said the centre of Tropical Storm Harvey should pass to the south of Jamaica, and that the island remains outside of the tropical storm band.

On its current path, Harvey is projected to pass Jamaica on Sunday into Monday, bringing increased rainfall and thunderstorms.
