Gov't assumes responsibility to pay cooks in public schools
The Education Ministry is to take on the cost for schools to employ cooks to prepare meals for students in public schools.
Education Minister, Ruel Reid, said the move is to help ease the financial burden on parents who have to fund these special workers.
According to Reid, there are 913 cooks across the system and it will cost the government $274.8 million to pay them.
The education minister says this year, the ministry will be spending $200 million to upgrade canteen facilities.
