Shaw calls for cool heads in public sector wage talks
Finance Minister Audley Shaw is appealing for moderation in salary demands after a major public sector union voted to reject the government’s wage offer for the 2017-2019 contract period.
On Wednesday, delegates of the Jamaica Teachers’ Association voted against the six per cent wage offer.
President of the association, Georgia Waugh Richards said the parties are to meet again in two weeks to continue the wage talks.

Yesterday, while speaking on Nationwide Radio, Shaw said he hoped "cool heads" would prevail given the realities such as the agreement with the International Monetary Fund and the impending implementation of pension reforms.
The government is set to begin negotiations with the Jamaica Police Federation on August 28.
