Education Minister expects smooth start to school year

Education Minister, Ruel Reid, says he expects a smooth start to the school year with classes resuming today.

In his back to school message to the nation, Reid said subventions, furniture and books were provided to schools months in advance of their opening.

He further said several schools were renovated.

The education minister noted this year that government is spending over $37 billion on secondary education and has also increased funding to primary, all age and junior high schools.

Reid appealed to stakeholders in the education sector to continue their partnership with the Government to achieve better outcomes in education.

He noted that the country saw improved performances in the Grade Six Achievement Test (GSAT), the Caribbean Secondary Education Certificate (CSEC) and other exams last year and called for increased collaboration among parents, teachers, schools and the education ministry.
