Jacqueline Lewis gets nod from PNP delegates in Norman Gardens
People's National Party (PNP) delegates of the Norman Gardens division, in East Kingston and Port Royal, yesterday selected Jacqueline Lewis as the party's standard-bearer for the division.
Lewis, the sitting chairman of the division, amassed 151 votes to turn back the challenge of Racquel Hall, who could only manage to get 107 votes.
The results were announced at the PNP's East Kingston and Port Royal constituency office.
Just over 300 PNP delegates were eligible to vote in the internal run-off, which was incident-free.
The result of the selection is to go to the party's Region 3, where it is expected to be ratified.
The internal run-off became necessary following the success of the incumbent councillor, Dr Angela Brown Burke, in her bid to be the PNP's candidate to contest the by-election for South West St Andrew.
In that contest, Brown Burke, backed by former Prime Minister Portia Simpson Miller, polled 595 votes to defeat councillor for the Payne Land division, Audrey Smith Facey, who got 502 votes.
