Prime Minister Andrew Holness says once completed, work being done to expand the roadway in Barbican, St Andrew will result in an ease in the flow of traffic in the community and surrounding areas.

The Prime Minister was speaking last night at an OPM Live community dialogue event in Barbican to discuss the roadwork.

The US$4.4 million project is expected to be completed by December.

The Prime Minister says approximately 26,000 cars travel through Barbican Square daily.

He says the current design of the road does not allow the free flow of traffic, resulting in lengthy delays.

Holness says the work being done in Barbican will see the thoroughfare expanded to include a road surface that can manage heavy traffic flow.

He says LED lights will also be installed as well as a modern traffic light system.

The Prime Minister has also given instructions for the National Housing Trust to identify lands in Barbican for a housing development.

He says this is intended to allow persons in the community to access housing through their NHT benefits.
