Lowest road deaths count for 2017 recorded in August
Jamaica recorded 19 road deaths last month.
According to the Road Safety Unit in the Ministry of Transport, this is the lowest figure recorded for a one-month period this year.
Statistics compiled by the unit show that the 19 fatalities recorded last month is nearly 50 per cent less than the 33 road deaths recorded in August last year.
The highest number of road deaths over a one-month period this year was recorded in July when 40 persons died on the nation’s roadways.
A total of 247 persons have died in motor vehicle crashes since the start of the year, a 13 per cent decline when compared with the corresponding period last year.
