Bail extended for businessman charged in son's death
Businessman Christopher Soutar, who is charged with manslaughter arising from the death of his two-year-old son, had his bail extended by the St Catherine Circuit Court this morning.
Soutar appeared before Justice Sarah Thompson-James.
The case was postponed and set for mention on October 11.
The businessman was arrested and charged in 2011 after his son was shot at their home in Portmore, St Catherine.
It was reported that an explosion was heard inside the house and upon investigation, the child was discovered suffering from a gunshot wound.
It is being alleged that the infant used his father’s licenced firearm to shoot himself.
The injured child was taken to hospital where he died.
The father was subsequently arrested and the firearm seized.
He was later charged.
