Police seize four M16 rifles in St James

Thirteen persons were taken into custody by the police today following a joint police-military operation in Flanker, St James in which the security forces recovered four high-powered guns.

The police say the 12 men and one woman are being processed adding that their identities are being withheld.

The items seized include four M16 rifles, a Glock .45 pistol and 87 assorted rounds of ammunition.

The police say between 4 o’clock this morning and 2 o’clock this afternoon the joint team conducted operations in the Bronx area of the community where a premises was searched and the weapons and ammunition found.  

Meanwhile, the police say over the past week they seized approximately 26 firearms and over 390 assorted rounds of ammunition in operations across the island.
