Chuck apologises to divorce unit staff
Justice Minister Delroy Chuck has been forced to apologise to workers in the divorce unit of the Supreme Court who staged a sit-in yesterday to register their objection to claims of corruption in the office.
Speaking early yesterday, Chuck said he would not apologise for the statement as he insisted that the divorce unit must be cleaned up.
Despite this, Chuck has now issued an apology to the workers.
The Justice Minister Chuck says his comments were intended only for those who are involved in or facilitate corrupt activities.
He says he did not mean to broad brush the entire unit.
Meanwhile, Chuck says the Ministry is to hand over three more cases of fake divorces to the police Fraud Squad which is probing a corruption scandal at the divorce unit at the Supreme Court.
The Justice Ministry told our news centre that four cases were submitted to the Fraud Squad in June.
According to him, more persons who say they were provided with fake divorce papers by the unit are to come forward.
