TAJ opening select tax offices Saturday, aims to ease traffic ticket amnesty rush
The Tax Administration Jamaica (TAJ) will be opening several of its tax offices this Saturday to facilitate persons wishing to take advantage of the traffic ticket amnesty now on.
TAJ says the move is to accommodate the increase in persons transacting business at a month end.
The following offices will operate between the hours of 10 a.m.-2 p.m.:
St Ann’s Bay
The Portmore Tax Office will continue its regular Saturday opening time of 10 a.m. - 4 p.m.
TAJ says persons will be able to access all usual weekday services, including motor vehicle transactions, renewal of Driver’s Licences and Property Tax payment, as the tax authority continues to provide greater convenience. Audit and compliance activities will not be available during the Saturday operation.
However, GCT registered taxpayers are cautioned that although some tax offices will be open this Saturday, their monthly GCT return for the month of August is due on or before Friday, September 29. This is in keeping with the legal requirement that GCT returns are due the last working day of the month.
Motorists are reminded that they have several channels through which they can pay traffic fines. They have the option of paying in line or utilising the designated eSpots in any of the listed locations or to make online payments via the TAJ portal at www.jamaicatax.gov.jm.
Motorists are advised that they must have either the ticket number or the traffic ticket itself to facilitate payment, whether at a tax office or online.
Persons seeking support to make queries about any outstanding tickets are directed to contact the Jamaica Constabulary Force’s Call Centre at 948-0411 Mondays to Thursdays from 8:30 a.m.-5 p.m. and on Friday 8:30 a.m.-4 p.m. and any scheduled Saturday opening date.
