Police recover gun suspected in attack on policewoman and family
The police are reporting they have recovered the gun suspected to have been used in the attack on a female police inspector and her two daughters, one of whom is also a cop, in Portmore, St Catherine on Wednesday.
The police say the Ruger 9 millimetre pistol with a magazine containing 17 rounds of ammunition were recovered in bushes near the house.
The senior cop and her daughters, one 17 and the other 23, were home about 8:20 p.m. when men armed with guns launched an attack opening fire on the premises.
A firefight ensued in which two of the women were shot and the third was grazed by a bullet.
Two of the gunmen were also shot in the exchange.
One succumbed to his injuries and the other was held by the police after he turned up at hospital seeking medical treatment.
Subsequent to the incident the police reported that the attack was a suspect reprisal for the shooting death of an alleged gangster by the police in Portmore that same day.
