Prime Minister Andrew Holness is urging parents who need help raising their children to reach out to the National Parenting Commission or someone who can provide appropriate assistance.

Holness noted that cultural practices such as the use of violence to discipline children have caused significant psychological damage.

He says corporal punishment teaches children that violence is the only way to deal with stress and to make corrections.

Holness also described it as reprehensible where parents allow their children to be groomed or fail to report such incidents.
