An American woman who attempted to leave the island with cocaine valued at over $4 million has been arrested and charged by the police.

Thirty-six-year-old Amanda George is charged with possession of cocaine, dealing in cocaine and taking preparatory steps to export cocaine.

George is scheduled to appear in the St James Parish Court tomorrow.

The police say she was held at the Sangster International Airport on Sunday while attempting to board a flight to Birmingham, England.

They say she was searched and five rectangular parcels of cocaine weighing approximately seven pounds were found hidden in a compartment in her suitcase.
