Colin Bullock ... died in hospital yesterday after being ill for some time.

Opposition Leader, Dr Peter Phillips says he is deeply saddened by the death of former head of the Planning Institute of Jamaica (PIOJ), Colin Bullock.

Bullock died yesterday after ailing for some time.

According to Phillips, Bullock’s outstanding contribution to national development is applauded and Jamaica is grateful for his role in securing the economic programme which has placed the country on the recovery path.

"Colin has been my friend from our days at Jamaica College, he was a man of honour and integrity, who was loyal to his country," said Phillips.

Bullock served as Deputy Governor of the Bank of Jamaica and head of the Planning Institute of Jamaica.

He also served as Financial Secretary before returning to the Department of Economics at the University of the West Indies.

"He dedicated his entire life to national development and gave of himself to help many,” Phillips said.

The Opposition Leader said, Bullock was instrumental in Jamaica securing the economic recovery programme after the People's National Party took over the reins of government in 2011.

"That programme, combined with the hard work and discipline of people like Bullock, was the tool that rescued Jamaica from the brink of economic disaster. Colin loved his country and served it well,” Dr. Phillips said.
