Public discussion on hurricanes Irma, Maria at UWI today

The University of the West Indies (UWI) has issued an invitation to the public to attend a discussion on Irma and Maria: Relief, Reconstruction & Reparations at the Council Room of the UWI Regional Headquarters, Mona at 8 a.m. today.

Discussants will include an eminent faculty of academics led by Vice Chancellor Sir Hilary Beckles, an economic historian who will address the topic Historical Injustice, Sovereignty and Reparations.

Luz Longsworth, pro vice-chancellor, UWI Open Campus, will speak on Recovery, Reconstruction & Resilience; Dr Barbara Carby, director of The UWI's Disaster Risk Reduction Centre - Disaster Management & Planning for Category 5 Hurricanes; Pro-fessor Michael Taylor, head, Department of Physics - Predicting the Intensity & Frequency of Hurricanes, and Dr Nekeisha Spencer, Department of Economics - Economic & Socio Economic Impacts of Hurricanes in the Caribbean.
