Local mechanical and electrical engineering contracting firm J. H. Dunstan and Associates on Thursday, October 5, signalled its keen interest in the alternative energy sector by facilitating an eight-hour training seminar in photovoltaics (PV) at its 18 Cargill Avenue, St Andrew headquarters.

Some 15 engineers and technicians were trained by local and overseas experts on the design and installation of photovoltaics. Solomon Burchell of the Government Electrical Inspectorate Offices, outlined the regulations governing the acceptable installation techniques and practices, which includes stand-alone system and grid tie systems.

Another facillitator, Derek Durham from Solar Clarity, a leading Netherlands-based supplier and manufacturer of PV systems, led the installation presentation. And consultant Mark Dennis, a design engineer of alternative systems and sustainable resources, gave an overview of most alternative energy systems now available worldwide.
