ACP Heywood says special attention will be given to communities in Annotto Bay, Enfield, Richmond and Bellefield.

Head of the Police Area 2, Assistant Commissioner of Police, Norman Heywood, says the police will intensify their enforcement activities this week across South Eastern St Mary as the two main political parties step up their campaigning ahead of Monday’s by-election.

ACP Heywood says special attention will be given to communities in Annotto Bay, Enfield, Richmond and Belfield.

These areas have been sites of political tension in recent weeks.

The Area 2 head says the tension has been caused by acts of vandalism across party lines.

He says the police will continue to do what’s necessary to keep the peace ahead of the by-election.

ACP Heywood says there has been no escalation of political violence in the constituency and the police will ensure that it remains that way.

The Jamaica Labour Party’s Dr Norman Dunn and the People’s National Party’s Dr Shane Alexis are contesting the by-election.
