The police in St James are on the hunt for three men who escaped a police chase and left an illegal gun behind.

The police say yesterday morning a team was on mobile patrol in Flanker when they saw a Mitsubishi motor car travelling towards Ironshore.

The driver of the motor car was reportedly observed disobeying several traffic signals and was stopped on Howard Cooke Boulevard.

The police say the driver was being informed of traffic breaches when he sped off.

The driver reportedly lost control of the vehicle, which flipped multiple times and landed on its side.

The driver and two other men reportedly exited the vehicle and escaped.

The police say the car was searched and one Smith and Wesson 9 millimetre pistol along with 23 9 millimetre cartridges found.
