Security Minister, INDECOM condemn killing of Manchester policeman
The Minister of National Security Robert Montague and the Independent Commission of Investigations (INDECOM) are condemning the killing of a police Corporal in Manchester yesterday.
The police report that Corporal Melvin Smith was shot several times as he attempted to apprehend a robber who had just stolen a motorcycle in the Mandeville town centre.
The owner of the motorcycle was also shot and remains hospitalised in stable condition.
In a statement today, Montague said the killing marked a sad day for the entire nation and appealed to members of the public to come forward with information that can help the police find the perpetrators.
He also urged the members of the Jamaica Constabulary Force to remain courageous and resolute in performing their tasks.
Senior Public Relations Officer at INDECOM Kahmile Reid appealed for the unconditional cooperation of all citizens in the fight against criminal elements in the society.
