Police to hold ID parade in Mandeville cop's killing
The police say the three suspects in custody for the killing of Corporal Melvin Smith in Mandeville, Manchester last Friday are to be placed on identification parades as they follow strong leads.
Head of the Police Area Three, Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Clifford Chambers, says the three men were apprehended in Clarendon and are to be questioned in relation to the killing of the corporal.
The police say shortly after 8 o'clock Friday night, Smith was assisting a man who was robbed of his motorcycle.
He chased the robbers and a shoot-out ensued.
One of the men fell from the motorcycle and ran.
The second man reportedly shot the corporal.
He returned fire, injuring one of the robbers before he collapsed.
The policeman was taken to hospital where he died.
