British drug smuggler fined $1.65 million, gets 18 months in prison
A British woman who pleaded guilty to attempting to leave the island with a quantity of cocaine has been fined a total of $1.65 million.
Thirty-six-year-old Amanda George was fined $800,000 or six months imprisonment on a charge of possession of cocaine and $850,000 or six months imprisonment for attempting to export cocaine.
The British woman was also sentenced to 18 months imprisonment at hard labour.
George was arrested at the Sangster International Airport on Sunday, October 8 when detectives from the Narcotics Division found cocaine weighing approximately 3.1 kilogrammes in a false compartment of her suitcase.
At the time, she was attempting to board a flight destined for Birmingham, England.
