Murder tally shoots past last year's
Just released crime figures by the police have confirmed that Jamaica's murder tally has surpassed that of last year's with fewer than two months left in 2017.
Crime statistics compiled by the Jamaica Constabulary Force (JCF) show that 1,359 persons have been killed up to November 4.
This is 280 more persons killed over the similar period last year and nine more than the number killed for all of last year.
The figures indicate that there was also an increase in the number of shootings up to November 4 this year.
There were 1, 225 reported shootings over the review period, compared with 979 in the previous year.
