Transport group wants gov't to address security in bus parks

Lobby group, Transport Operators Development Sustainable Services, is expressing concern about the security of public transport facilities following the killing of two transport operators in five days.

The group says the killing of the transport operators in St Elizabeth and St Catherine has brought into sharp focus, the need for the government to deal with security in public transport centres, extortion, and men who load public transport.

The group representing some public transport operators describes the facility in Spanish Town as a killing field.

It says it will have to advise members to abandon the transport centre in the old capital if a police post is not reinstated.

Yesterday, the police reported that a man, who the transport group later identified as a bus operator, was shot and killed by gunmen in the Spanish Town transport facility in full view of commuters, while another was killed on the weekend in Santa Cruz, allegedly by a man who loads buses.
