Involvement of politicians in contract awards contributing to road disrepair – NIA
The National Integrity Action (NIA) says the involvement of politicians in the awarding of contracts to repair roads is contributing to the prevailing poor state of the island's road infrastructure.
Pointing to the frequent protests over poor road conditions, NIA Executive Director, Professor Trevor Munroe, referred to a 2013 National Security Policy Paper which stated that contracts for road repairs and construction are often not awarded based on competence.
The policy paper said contracts are awarded often times based on the recommendation of a particular politician.
The NIA head says this has to change.
