Three men shot, killed by police in Salt Spring, St James

Three men were shot and killed by the police this morning in an alleged shootout in Salt Spring, St James.

The alleged gunmen reportedly opened fire on a team from the Mobile Reserve who were conducting an operation in the community minutes after 6 o'clock.

The gunfire was returned by the police team and the three unidentified men were found suffering from gunshot injuries.

They were taken to the Cornwall Regional Hospital where they were pronounced dead.

The police say they recovered one Ruger .40 pistol and eight rounds of ammunition as well as a Bersa .22 pistol and a magazine with 5 .22 rounds.

The Independent Commission of Investigations (INDECOM) is now in the area conducting an investigation into the shooting.
