Met Service issues flash flood watch for eastern parishes

The Meteorological Service of Jamaica has issued a Flash Flood Watch for low-lying and flood-prone areas of Portland, St Thomas, Kingston and St Andrew and St Mary.

In its 5 o'clock weather update this morning, the Met Service said satellite imagery and Radar reports indicate that light to moderate showers and thunderstorms have been affecting sections of eastern and central parishes since last night into this morning.

It says the forecast is for showers and thunderstorms to continue today across most parishes and flash flooding is a possibility over some low-lying and flood-prone areas of eastern parishes.

A Flash Flood Watch means that flash flooding is possible and residents are advised to take precautionary measures, keep informed by listening to further releases from the Met Service and be ready for quick action if flooding is observed or if a Warning is issued.

The watch is effective until 5 o'clock this afternoon.
