Two persons were mowed down this morning in Morant Bay, St Thomas when the driver lost control of the motor car she was driving.

Dead are 67-year-old Calvin Mowatt, of Springfield and Marlene Delport, 53, of Friendship Pen.

Reports are that a grey Nissan Tiida was travelling in an easterly direction along Church Street in Morant Bay about 6 a.m. when the female driver lost control of the motor car.

It ran across the road and slammed into a tree, then hit a shed before mowing down Mowatt and Delport who were standing along the roadside.

The two injured pedestrians, along with the driver of the ill-fated car, were rushed to the Princess Margaret Hospital where Mowatt and Delport were pronounced dead and the driver admitted for treatment.

Two passengers who were in the car at the time of the crash escaped injuries.

The Morant Bay police are investigating the incident.
