The donated state-of-the-art ambulance which sat at the Kingston Wharves for more than a year has been handed over to the Noel Holmes Hospital in Lucea, Hanover.

The ambulance was officially handed over on Friday on the grounds of the hospital.

The donation was made in June 2016 by United Kingdom Chapter of the Friends of Noel Holmes Hospital but the vehicle could not leave the wharf because the approximately $5 million in customs duties had not been paid.

The charity had complained that it was being asked to pay duties on a charitable donation.

Members of the diaspora in the UK again raised the issue at Jamaica 55 Diaspora Conference in July, at which time, Health Minister, Dr Christopher Tufton, said he would appeal to the Minister of Finance for help.
