What is the sentence if she pleads guilty? Lawyer representing St Thomas mother asks judge
The attorney representing the St Thomas mother who was seen in a video beating her daughter with a machete has asked the court to indicate what sentence it would impose if his client were to plead guilty.
Bertram Anderson made the application this morning when the matter was mentioned in the St Thomas Parish Court.
The accused, 44-year-old Doreen Dyer, is charged with cruelty to a child.
Following the submissions, the parish judge ordered a social enquiry report on Dyer.
She was ordered to return to court on January 15 at which time the judge will indicate her position on the application.
Dyer was charged by the police on October 6 and was subsequently offered bail.
The video shows the partially nude mother beating the girl violently with a machete while cursing expletives.
The police said their investigation revealed that the incident happened in 2016.
