Police Commissioner George Quallo has declared that he feels no pressure from the political directorate in relation to promotions within the Jamaica Constabulary Force (JCF).

National Security Minister Robert Montague recently said he was concerned that cops with questionable records have been rewarded with promotions, with some going to cops who did not sit required examinations.

Responding to questions at a press conference this morning, Commissioner Quallo said the issue of promotions will always be a vexed one.

However, he said process of promotions process is a tedious one.

The JCF recently announced a raft of promotions following repeated public criticism from Montague.

However, Montague says despite recent promotions he’s still not happy that several members of the Force cannot benefit from upward mobility.

He says the administration is very concerned about the lack of transparency in the system of promotion in the JCF.
