The Agriculture Minister, Karl Samuda, says the sugar industry is on track to surpass the US$17 million it earned from exports last year.

Samuda says his optimism is based on sugar exports over the first eight months of this year.

He did not provide any figures but says he is also encouraged by the recent rains just before the start of the harvesting season.

Meanwhile, the agriculture minister says every effort will be made to find the resources to rehabilitate cane roads islandwide.

He says this has to be done to give cane farmers a fair chance.

Samuda was addressing the 68th annual general meeting of the All-Island Jamaica Cane Farmers’ Association at the Spanish Court Hotel in Kingston.
