Chuck says justice system must play its part in reducing crime
Justice Minister Chuck says the time has come for the criminal justice system to play its part in sending a powerful message to criminals and potential wrongdoers that the rule of law will be enforced.
He says prosecutors must lead this process.
Mr Chuck says when persons are charged with a criminal offence their case should be listed for trial within six months.
He says prosecutors must demand that investigations and files are completed within three months after an accused person is charged, failing which the matter should be brought to the attention of the Police High Command.
The justice minister says he wants to see cases in the Circuit Courts being disposed of within three years after an accused is charged and within 18 months for the parish courts.
