60-year-old man charged in $90,000 ganja seizure
One man has been charged with breaches of the Dangerous Drugs Act following the seizure of 22.5 pounds of ganja at the Norman Manley International Airport in Kingston on Monday, November 13.
He is 60-year-old Peter Orett, watchman of May Pen, Clarendon.
He has been charged with illegal possession of ganja, dealing in ganja and taking steps preparatory to export ganja.
Reports from the Narcotics Police are that Orett sent a shipment of assorted processed foods to a shipping agency at the airport for shipment to England among which 45 tins containing compressed ganja were discovered.
On Thursday, November 16 when he went to make payments for the services he was arrested.
The ganja has an estimated street value of J$90,000.
Orett is scheduled to appear before the Kingston and St Andrew Parish Court on Friday, November 24.
