Minister of Health Dr Christopher Tufton is to open a Cancer Treatment Centre this morning at the Cornwall Regional Hospital in St James.

Ground was broken for the state-of-the-art cancer treatment centre in November 2015.

Another such centre will be located on the grounds of the St Joseph’s Hospital in Kingston. Work on that facility began in February 2016.

The centres are to be outfitted with linear accelerator (LINAC) machines, which are the most modern technology in radiotherapy treatment.

The project to build both centres cost US$14.5 million with major funding from the National Health Fund (NHF), the CHASE Fund and the Tourism Enhancement Fund (TEF).
