The Minister of Education Ruel Reid is this evening describing the late Professor Claude Packer as a brilliant academic who was committed to reinventing the way mathematics is taught in schools.

Professor Packer died in the United States on Thursday after a brief illness.

He served for many years as principal of the former Mico Teachers’ College before becoming the first president of the institution after it transitioned to the Mico University College in 2009.

Reid says for over 50 years Professor Packer gave immeasurable dedication and service to the education sector and was a beacon of transformation to the Mico University College.

He says Professor Packer is a shining example of the very best Jamaica has to offer while noting that his efforts to develop tertiary education can never be overlooked.
