The National Solid Waste Management Authority (NSWMA) says remedial work on the rain damaged interior access road network at the Riverton disposal site has been causing long delays for garbage trucks.

A release from the NSWMA this morning said the delays have also affected its garbage collection schedule in Kingston and St Andrew, as well as St Catherine.

NSWMA Executive Director, Audley Gordon, says the agency will not attempt a permanent fix of the roads at Riverton at this time as this will cause significant disruption to its collection schedule over the approaching Christmas season.

The NSWMA is asking residents in Kingston and St Andrew and St Catherine to be patient as it aims to complete the remedial works as soon as possible in order to return to normal operation.
