The year 2017 was quite a year for Tax Administration Jamaica (TAJ). We have been through many developments. Although we had some challenges, we've also experienced a great amount of success.

TAJ continues to make it easier for persons to file and pay online through the continuous build-out of our online portal at www.jamaicataxgov.jm. During the year, we expanded our online services, adding the option for motorists to pay their Motor Vehicle Certificate of Fitness online at their convenience instead of having to visit a Tax Office. Additionally, all major taxes such as Income Tax, General Consumption Tax, Special Consumption Tax, Guest Accommodation Room Tax and Special Telephone Call Tax, Payroll Taxes, Property Tax, as well as traffic ticket fines can be filed and/or paid online.

The August 2 to October 31, 2017, Traffic Ticket Amnesty was a good test of our online system, where on the final day, the virtual tax office was the highest collection point across our network of 29 tax offices. This is a clear indication that customers are responding to the call to use the convenience of our online services, and we will continue to encourage others to do so.

We have also taken steps towards changing the tax culture to foster greater voluntary compliance. This we achieved through a signifcant increase in outreach activities, forged and strengthened strategic partnerships, and continued engagement of key stakeholders, all of which has bolstered the performance of the revenue above target over 10 consecutive quarters.

TAJ remains committed to serving Jamaica through increased taxpayer education and improved service, underpinned by competent and efficient tax support so that we may all realise a tax - compliant Jamaica that is stronger for the future.

As we look forward to 2018, TAJ will continue to work on improving our business processes and procedures, attaining our ideal business model and environment, widening our customer base, and improving our delivery of customer service.
