Published:Wednesday | December 6, 2017 | 10:05 AM

Opposition Leader Dr Peter Phillips has moved a motion in the House of Representatives for enactment of the controversial National Identification and Registration Act 2017 to be delayed to allow for more consultation.

In moving the motion, Dr Phillips noted that 268 different amendments were made to the bill in the House and the Senate

He also noted that almost 65,000 Jamaicans, here and abroad, have signed an online petition raising concerns about the proposed National Identification System (NIDS).

He now wants enactment of the bill to be postponed and a Joint Select Committee set up to deliberate on it.
